Steam Greenlight Games I am Excited About
Let's start with some games I voted on that should be on Steam shortly:
MaK/Project Make
In MaK, you 'make' stuff. In the end, it is just another building blocks game, I guess, but it looks very inventive. You have a very unique gameplay experience because it lets you be creative with solving problems. Want to move something heavy? Put balloons on it to make it float. Then, you can push or pull it. There are also lasers and various other toys. I really don't know enough about the game to know whether or not I would play it for the long term, but I know I want to buy it and try it out as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, the game is having to change its name due to a trademark dispute, and there's no telling how long the developer will need to work out the game's new title. Personally, I think trademarks are ridiculous and should be abolished entirely. Why should anyone own a name? That said, 'MaK' was a terrible name that really was not keyboard friendly. I have to use alt codes to make the original name, M?K, the right way, and I'm not even sure what the code for the character is. Thank Windows for its Character Map application.
Dawn of Fantasy
This game has been available to me for months in a non-Steam beta way. I have waited to play it once it is put on Steam, because I will receive a free Steam key, anyway. Want to check the game out? Click here.
Legends of Grindea
This game looks extremely polished graphically and has that retro feel that puts a big smile on my face. The game page does not say whether the game is greenlit, but I assume it has. The release date is not yet announced, but I look forward to playing it with random strangers. There is a very in-depth feature overview video on the Greenlight page.
Dragon's Lair
Such a classic! This is an example of what gamers should expect from adventure games but almost never get from them. It's like watching a show that you interact with every few seconds. The game was officially greenlit a while ago, so I am wondering why it is not on the store yet.
Now, what do you say we jump into games which are still in-the-works and trying to get greenlit.
8-Bit Commando
This is one of those nostalgia-driven games. Yes, the graphics suck. Yes, the gameplay is very basic. I still yes-voted it. I still want to play it. You can yes-vote it, too: click.
Planet Explorers
I actually helped with the site for this game, Pathea.net. That is how I initially learned about it. It's on Greenlight now. They are also trying to get it funded via Kickstarter. Anyway, I am extremely impressed with the developers of this game. They are brilliant coders and to top it off, they use Unity3D. That is awesome.
The game looks like something I would dream up and write in a "Games I Wish I Could Make" journal. Hm. I think I will make that into a blog category.
