Riddick is not a remake

I watched the new Riddick movie. After seeing the teaser a few months ago, I went into the theater expecting it to be a remake of the original Pitch Black. It is not a remake. It is actually a sequel to The Chronicles of Riddick.
My opinion of the movie is that the story is a little too back-to-basics and not enough Riddick. The character's ability to see in the dark is not showcased in this movie nearly as much as it should be. The plot starts strong with a hint that Riddick is getting weak in more ways than one, but as soon as the supporting characters drop in, we end up with a lame, watered down desert war zone.
The movie offers decent CG effects and a moderate amount of blood and violence. I liked most of the fight scenes and the tension between them. I like some of the villainous characters a lot more than I expected to. There was a moment in the film when one of the bounty hunters has to deactivate a bomb he planted but is suddenly not sure is safe. That moment is easily one of the most memorable of all the scenes in the movie simply because the acting was good and the scene had a good pace. That, however, is the flaw of the film, the pace. It it slow. Everything seems to be extremely predictable and happens at least five or ten minutes after you would expect it to. Then, suddenly, as the pace quickens and the movie gets more exciting, it ends.
There is also a lot of sexuality and very brief but ultimately memorable boobage. Yes, I said boobage. That is a word now. It is cleavage without the clothes. Anyway, it's there. It doesn't seem important to the story at all, and it isn't really believable, but I am sure a lot of people enjoy the scene, anyway, for obvious reasons. In my opinion, it makes Riddick seem like a slasher movie.
